Volunteers Help Reopen Cane Creek Bike Trail

The Cane Creek Park mountain bike trail is reopened thanks to the help of volunteers who assisted in clearing debris caused by storm damage.

Cookeville Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said he’s thankful for everyone’s hard work over the weekend.

“It was awesome, we had a large group of volunteers,” Woods said. “I wish I could mention every one of their names because they came out and worked really hard to help get the trail open and cleared and make sure it’s good and ready to go for mountain bikers, walkers and joggers that utilize the trail.”

Woods said the trail was closed for about a month before volunteers were able to work on clearing debris and fallen trees from the trail.

“We’re just so grateful to the volunteers who came out and worked on the trail,” Woods said. “That really makes a difference and it says a lot about our community. We’re really appreciative of their time and their energy and their talents and their knowledge.”

Woods said volunteers also assisted in helping prepare for an expansion of the trail coming in the near future.

“We have plans to do some expansion of the trail to make it a little bit longer that will go outside the current fenced area of the trail, and into some other areas of the park that are not currently in use,” Woods said.

Woods said approximately 12 to 15 volunteers assisted in the cleanup process Saturday and that the trail is open from 7 a.m. to dusk each day.
