Vol State is looking to return to some sense of normalcy with more in-person classes available this fall.
Public Relations Coordinator Eric Melcher said the school has been primarily online for a year now. Melcher said the fall will be about meeting student needs while keeping them safe on campus.
“We know that there’s some students that they just work better that way,” Melcher said. “In fact I was talking to a student today who said, ‘I’m a visual learner, I really need to have that one on one contact, in-person with a professor.”
Melcher said fall registration is more important than ever this year. He said student’s in-person class interest will determine the fall.
“We’re going to be judging how many sections we open up of in-person classes by their popularity,” Melcher said. “So it’s one of those years where people really want to do everything early.”
Melcher said that priority registration for current students begins in two weeks. He said new students need to start registering now.
Melcher said over the past year, virtual course delivery has expanded students skill sets for ever-changing workforce environment. He said balancing in-person and virtual learning has put students, and the school in a better position.
“I think the combination of more in-person classes and some new techniques we used for online classes,” Melcher said. “I think that we’re going to come out of this being better than ever. When it comes to being able to offer people a range of educational styles and opportunities.”
Melcher said the full-range of online class options will still be available to Vol State students. In-person learning will be opened up at all locations, including Cookeville and Livingston.
