Vol State Hosting “KEY” Lecture Series At Cookeville Campus

Vol State hosting its first lecture series at the Cookeville Campus this Friday.

Vice President for Economic and Community Development Nick Bishop said the “Keep Educating Yourself” (KEY) series has been going on successfully at the Gallatin campus for some 20 years. He said they decided to bring it to Cookeville’s campus this year to promote the newly created Upper Cumberland Campuses.

“And we’re trying to leverage our resources and classes and staff between those two campuses as well as technology,” Bishop said. “To really enhance that experience for students and the community. And this is just part of that.”

Bishop said the KEY lecture series is part of a greater desire of Vol State for lifelong education.

“The topics across the KEY series are really kind of geared towards what we refer to as personal enrichment topics,” Bishop said. “It’s kind of a fun thing to do on Fridays, we do it in fall we do it in spring, the topics are kind of all over the place but interesting, fun stuff. We some local stuff, national stuff and even stuff on a global scale. So it’s kind of an opportunity to engage the community and try to keep educating ourselves.”

Bishop said Friday’s lecture will feature the highly-popular presentation by Duncan Davis called “A Cosmic Journey.” The lecture will take audiences through the galaxy and different aspects on outer space. To register, Bishop said call (615) 230-3358.
