Victim Identified In Officer-Involved Shooting

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has identified the man who died during an officer-involved shooting in Overton County Tuesday.

Officials identified the man as 39-year-old Paul Landis Gorden.

TBI officials said officers shot and killed Gorden when he produced a firearm during a confrontation with two Overton County Deputies at a residence on Pedalbrook Lane.

According to a TBI press release, officers responded to the location after a resident reported an abandoned vehicle with bullet holes on the property. Authorities said the confrontation broke out when the deputies arrived on scene and saw Gorden walk out of a nearby tree line.

Officials said no officers were injured and the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The TBI does not identify officers involved in these types of investigations, and instead refers such inquiries to the respective local law enforcement agencies.
