Veterans Bike-Ride Stopping In Cookeville For American Job Center Job Fair

The Cookeville American Job Center will host a job fair Wednesday specifically for veterans.

Veteran Employment Representative Jon Oskowski said 11 employers will be present ready to hire a veteran on site.

“The job fair is in support of a month long event that we’re having through all the American Job Centers,” Oskowski said. “What we’re doing is we have veterans riding bicycles. They started out in Memphis, Tennessee.”

The bike-ride is meant to raise awareness for veteran employment opportunities. Oskowski said the riders travel from fair to fair some 30-50 miles per day. Oskowski said the legion will arrive at Cookeville around noon to kick-off the hiring event.

“They’re arriving from route 70 that comes right through Cookeville, and we have a pretty nice facility over here to help veterans and people find jobs,” Oskowski said.

Oskowski said the Cookeville site will have personnel on site to help veterans overcome barriers of employment and get them job ready. The event will run from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m at 1000 England Drive.

“If they’re already in our system, all they would need to bring is a resume,” Oskowski said. “We would help them write their resume if they need help before that.”

Job opportunities range from Pacesetters, Silver Angels, Academy Sports, Candlewood Suites, Cookeville Regional Medical Center, Bledsoe Corrections Center and more.
