Vehicle Hits Pole, Causes Outages on Gainesboro Grade

Northwest Putnam and Southwest Jackson County residents are currently without power after an accident along Gainesboro Grade Thursday afternoon.

Public Safety Coordinator Brandon Smith says a vehicle struck TVA power lines with outages reported as far north as Gainesboro.

“Upper Cumberland Electric crews are on the scene and working on resolving the problem, but we don’t have an estimate from them on when they’ll get that repaired,” Smith says. “We would just urge folks to avoid the area of Gainesboro Grade and County Farm Road if you can find an alternative route home. In our experience with TVA lines, those sometimes take a little bit of time to get back up and going.”

Smith reports the area of 3800 Gainesboro Grade is currently closed to traffic as crews work to restore power. Jackson County E-911 reports a large portion of the county will be without power for approximately two hours during repairs.

No word on the condition of the driver who struck the pole or what may have caused the accident to occur.
