VEC Planned Power Outage Saturday For Some 3,000 Crossville Customers

About 3,200 Volunteer Electric Cooperative customers in Crossville will be without power early Saturday morning.

Crossville Service Area Manager Kevin Hembree said the planned outage is due to TDOT’s road widening project on Highway 127 North.

“We’ve been moving power lines there for going on about a year now, and we need to set a pole in line right at the substation and take out a pole,” Hembree said.

Hembree said power will be out from midnight to 5:00 a.m. Hembree said the outage will impact several areas near the highway such as Clear Creek Bridge, Plateau Road, Potato Farm Road, Genesis Road from Checking Station to Muddy Branch, Fredonia Road to Bakers Crossroads, Lawson Road, Tabor Loop and Sunset Ridge.

“It won’t impact anything in the industrial park in Crossville or anything coming south from our Fredonia Substation,” Hembree said.

Hembree said the cooperative always tries to keep planned outages to a minimum, but in this case, Hembree said the substation will have to be shut down during the work. Hembree said the work cannot be completed unless the poles are not energized.

“We appreciate everybody’s patience and cooperation while we do this project,” Hembree said. “We certainly don’t want to turn off somebody’s power, but sometimes we have to to safely do the work.”

Hembree said customers should have received notice about the outage over the past few weeks.
