A man who kidnapped a Cookeville woman from her home last year has pleaded guilty to multiple charges in Putnam County Criminal Court.
36-year-old Russell Vaughn will spend 20-years behind bars after pleading guilty to aggravated kidnapping, robbery, and burglary on Monday.
The kidnapping happened the night of Wednesday, January 11th of 2017.
An intense manhunt for Vaughn began after he allegedly entered the victim’s Dyer Avenue home, kidnapped her and took her car.
Vaughn stopped another woman on the street, and while they were talking, the victim mouthed the words “help me.” She was able to notify police and even took down the vehicle’s license plate number.
After receiving the report, Cookeville Police went to the house listed on the car’s registration and determined it had been entered by force.
Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy saw the car at about 11 p.m. Wednesday and started a pursuit. The victim got away and Vaughn reportedly ran on foot.
Police used bloodhounds to search for Vaughn in the Fairground Road, Green Acres subdivision and Tanglewood area. Vaughn was eventually arrested by an officer in plain clothes that Thursday morning on South Willow Avenue.
