Variety Of Services Aid Domestic Violence Victims

The TBI released its annual domestic violence report last week. The study showed more than 78,000 domestic violence incidents were reported statewide in 2016. Upper Cumberland Family Justice Center Director Amy Stockwell said a variety of services provided by centers like hers can make a difference for victims.

“They can feel more independent and not so dependent on their abuser, a lot of times they don’t see a way out, but they have the courage to come in here and then they realize there’s a lot of people that are helping solve those problems,” Stockwell said.

Those services vary, depending on the client’s needs.

“That’s been really important to some of our clients to realize I can have counseling or I can have people who help me figure out how to get a job or even fill out a resume because maybe they haven’t worked in 20 years,” Stockwell said.
