Vandalism Causing Damage, Expenses At Sparta Parks

Sparta officials say vandalism has caused some problems and some big bills this summer.

Sparta Public Works Director Dillard Quick:

“Also we’ve had some vandalism down at South Carter Park, we’ve had to replace the storage door, we had to replace the toilet, all the toilet paper holders, all the paper towel holders, it was probably about $1,000 worth of damage,” Quick said.

The damage has been repeated and isn’t limited to the South Carter Street Park.

“Not only do we have problems there, we have problems at Wallace Smith, we have problems at Pearson Park too, we’ve replaced the faucet out there three times since summer,” Quick said.

The Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen came up with a plan to test cameras at the parks at it’s last meeting.
