A dwindling fleet of ambulances had Van Buren County officials worried…but three new ambulances will be rolling over the next several months.
At times over the past several months, the county had been down to one working ambulance to serve the community. County Mayor Greg Wilson said the problems started last fall.
“We lost an ambulance due to an accident in Warren County after delivering a patient to River Park Hospital,” Wilson said. “The ambulance was totaled out and we’ve had mechanical problems with another ambulance.”
Van Buren County Commissioners have approved the purchase of a new ambulance, which Wilson said should be posted for bid in the next several weeks.
In addition, the county will be remounting a box on a new chassis, Wilson said. With the purchase of a new vehicle in October, the county will have three new units and one older unit in operation.
