Van Buren Imagination Library Searching For Additional Funding

The Van Buren County Imagination Library is looking for ways to raise additional funds so they can continue to promote reading to young children.

Board Co-Chair Elsie Blaylock said the library currently relies on donations and fundraising events to operate. Blaylock said they are also searching for sponsors for the library from within the community.

“We are a low-income area, but our resources are very limited,” Blaylock said. “And a lot of times we reach outside our community for different resources, but we have a lot of great community members here that supports us one hundred percent.”

Blaylock said the library is also hoping the county commission will be able to provide some sort of financial aid for the program. She said all of the funds they raise will go directly towards providing books to the children that need them.

“Whatever they can afford to give us, we’ll be happy with,” Blaylock said.

Blaylock said there is not a specific amount they are hoping to receive the county, but as much as the county is willing to give.

“We’re going to supply every child that signs up with their books that they’re required to get,” Blaylock said. “So we’re not going to look at any kind of any negativity or anything. We’re going to make it happen.”
