Van Buren County Moves Forward On Piney Convenience Center

Van Buren County Commission approved a land purchase for creation of Piney Convenience Center.

Commissioner Tabitha Denney bypassed Committee B on Tuesday in order to move the land purchase forward and allow time to draw up and complete supporting documents for a related grant deadline.

“We found a couple of spots and this was the best and cheapest route that Mr. Sullivan found and has been dealing on,” Denney said. “So I’m going to make a motion to purchase one plus acres.”

Denney said the county would additionally pay for the survey, attorney fees, and rollback taxes.

Mayor David Sullivan said that the land deal would go back to Committee B after the full commission meeting.

“This is just to get this process started with Lisa Luck to be able to get the grant,” Sullivan said. “We finally got numbers today to call people that this went through.”

Sullivan said that he would need the county attorney to draw up the contract by the following day.

The commission voted in favor of the land purchase. Committee B will meet in July to make further decisions on property development for the convenience center.
