Van Buren County Holds Open House For New Administrative Building.

Van Buren County held an open house for it’s new administrative building Sunday.

County officials lowered an American flag at the new building to mark the official opening of the new state-of-the-art facility.

Will Maxwell is a 4th District County Commissioner. He said the flag that came down flew at the old administrative building that burned to the ground in 2015.

“That was the first flag to up here at the new building,” Maxwell said. “We took it down, folded it, and presented it to the county commission to display here in the building. That means a lot to us because we were able to save the flag off the flag pole that night.”

The 50,000 square foot facility houses the jail, justice center, and all county administrative offices. County Mayor Greg Wilson said it was important to have all departments under one roof.

“We can reduce costs by doing that. The previous buildings were old and in need of a lot of work,” Wilson said. “We were able to open this building, consolidate, and in the long run save some money in utilities and such.”
