Van Buren County Sheriff Michael Brock said his office has received multiple reports of citizens receiving scam calls.
Brock said callers were impersonating Sheriff’s Deputies as well as other jurisdictional officers.

“Advising people of maybe existing warrants for court, civil processes that people are being held liable for,” Brock said. “Telling them to turn themselves in to the jail or to report to court.”
Brock said The Van Buren County Sheriff, Jail, and Court Clerk do not make threatening calls or texts about court dates or warrants.
Brock said concerned folks are reaching out to the Sheriff’s Department. He said the department wants them to know that any court papers or civil papers would be delivered meet face-to-face. He said they would not make that contact by phone. He said either he or one of the deputies would deliver those papers to their residence.
“We would have the paper in our hand and we would make multiple attempts until we were able to make contact with the person that needed to be served with the process,” Brock said.
Brock said it would be documented if they were able to make contact or not. He said they keep a record of all attempts and successful service.
“The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is not going to reach you by phone to advise you of an arrest warrant or a criminal summons that you have,” Brock said. “We will be coming to see your personally.”
