Van Buren Commission To Consider Bidding Out Courthouse Work

Van Buren County Committee B has recommended to bid out restoration work for the courthouse steeple.

Mayor Greg Wilson said the project has been bid out three times already with no interest.

“The north and south end we have some siding that has come off of that,” Wilson said. “We have the siding ready. We already have the siding. All we need to do is have it placed.”

Wilson said the project is a small one, but the problem is getting a bucket truck to reach the steeple. Wilson said small jobs like this do need get the response from contractors.

“We just do not have the response from those builders that can do minor jobs,” Wilson said. “It is just really hard to get any contractors to take care of it.”

Wilson said the county commission will consider soliciting bids during its meeting next week. Wilson said the work needs to be done to avoid leaks into the historic courthouse.

The courthouse was built in the 1800’s. The Van Buren County Historical and Heritage Museum is located in the building today.
