Van Buren Schools will purchase a new school bus from Mid-South Bus Center.
Director of Schools Cheryl Cole said each year the system purchases a new bus through a state bus grant. Overall cost, just over $107,000.
“We have about half of our buses now that have air conditioning,” Cole said. “The cameras. Those are the two main things, so we can keep problems down on the buses. If something happens, we have eyes pretty close to where the students are sitting.”
Cole said this year’s bid came about $5,000 under budget. The bus with four operating camera is expected to join the rest of the fleet in May.
“I usually budget, this year was like $112,000,” Cole said. “We know about what it is going to run because usually, it goes up around $3,000 each year. That way if something messes up with our other buses, the cameras and things, we can replace those, That is why I budgeted about 112.”
Cole said she hopes COVID does not delay the delivery of the bus. Last year’s bus purchase was approved and delivered around the same time.
