U.S Senator Bill Hagerty visited Cookeville Wednesday morning opening a new office for constituent services.
The district office is located on the third floor of the U.S. Post Office on Broad Street. Hagerty said this marks the first time a U.S. Senate office has been established in the Upper Cumberland.
“The Upper Cumberland in my view was a gap in coverage that no Senator had filled before, and Putnam County and Cookeville are right at the epicenter of the economic activity,” Hagerty said.
Senate representatives Tanner Cox and Bonnie Warren are stationed in the office. Hagerty said starting today, residents with federal issues such as social security and passports can seek help.
“Any number of issues that may arise when a Tennessean has to deal with the United State federal government,” Hagerty said. “Bonnie is an expert at this. She has been doing this for a long time. Tanner is a very outgoing individual. He went to school at Tennessee Tech and knows the area very well. His job is to make certain we are connecting and adding value where we can.”
Hagerty said through the office’s work, he wants to expand economic opportunities as well as contribute to the community in a positive way.
“We’re here to help make certain that the people in the area are able to navigate the federal government as they should be able to do,” Hagerty said. “Solve their problems dealing with the federal government, but also to try to help contribute to the community in a positive way so we can continue to see positive growth in the region.”
Hagerty said the same space was once used by U.S Representative Al Gore’s office.
