Work has slowed on the Upperman High School expansion project because of brick.
Upland Design Group Consultant Kim Chamberlin said the facility will now likely not be delivered before the end of the year.
“We are under roof, so they’re inside doing mechanical systems, sprinkler, piping, electrical work,” Chamberlin said. “Those things are progressing. But not having the brick there kind of slows down some of that exterior work. And my biggest concern is that without the brick being done, it’s hard for them to get the earthwork around the building complete. And if we get into the winter season on that, that may slow that work down.”
The system had hoped to be able to use the expanded area before the end of the current semester. Chamberlin said the brick problem is not just an Upperman issue, but is happening with almost every project.
“It’s just getting slower and slower for some reason,” Chamberlin said.
The school’s population continues to grow with the latest reports showing the enrollment over 100 percent. The new addition will add classroom space as well as space for several student programs.
