Upperman High School underwent an emergency roof repair after strong winds tore a hole above the band and choral room.
Putnam Schools Deputy Director Tim Martin said that they were getting ready to bid to replace the roof anyway, but the damage was significant and required an immediate temporary fix.
“These roofing projects are very expensive and we think that this roof will cost about $4 million to replace,” Martin said. “So this was about a $20,000 fix and that sounds like quite a lot of money, but compared to the cost a $4 million replacement.”
Martin said that they plan on bidding the project out as part of the Upperman High School expansion project. He said that they have already started the process of putting bids together.
Martin said that the projects will most likely be bid in the next month or so. He said that because of the current supply chain issues, it could be up to a year before the roof is replaced.
“Which is part of the reason why we needed to go ahead and get this temporary fix,” Martin said.
Martin said that there was no internal damage to the classroom.
