Upperman Addition Comes In Under Budget, Frees Money For Park View Roof Replacement

Putnam County Schools will have additional funding to repair the Park View Elementary School roof.

The Upperman High School addition came in some $2 million under budget. Director of Schools Corby King said the leftover federal COVID money can be used to help the county fund the $1.7 million project.

“From the school system’s side if we are able to go forward and we don’t have to put this into additional space somewhere else, we can move this to cover the Park View roof,” King said. ‘We are willing to work with you.”

King said the school system over budgeted for the Upperman project based on the rising construction prices. King said the cost of work was not as expensive as expected.

“When we put those estimates in and had to put it in our ESSER plans for approval, it was about the time the new Park View School bid came in,” King said. “We put about $2 million more than what was needed in that. We can do an amendment to that ESSER plan.”

King said the school board has only received preliminary estimates for the Park View roof project. King said it is a project that should happen in the next two or three years.
