Upper Cumberland EMS Awards Spotlight Individual Achievements

The Upper Cumberland EMS Directors Association held its annual awards banquet Tuesday night.

Association Secretary and Van Buren EMS Director Tiwanna Bricker said this event gives a chance to highlight work done around the year and over a lifetime. Bricker said they only give out individual awards, highlighting the standout workers and not departments in general.

“We receive nominations and then there’s a committee that decides who receives each nomination,” Bricker said. “Many years there have been numerous in each category that received the award because they’re so deserving.”

Bricker said there are four categories of awards that includes, Paramedic of The Year, EMT of The Year, Call of The Year and the Lifetime Achievement Award. She said all the awards are important, but there is one that stands out.

“I would consider the biggest the Lifetime Achievement,” Bricker said. “That typically honors someone that’s given many years to EMS and worked all their years to progress EMS.”
