Upper Cumberland Diversity Advocates Present The Third Annual Celebration Of Cultures Saturday

Upper Cumberland Diversity Advocates will host the third annual Celebration of Cultures Saturday on the Square in Fairfield Glade.

Event Co-Chair Lynn Pahl said there will be music, dance, food, and art displays representing diverse cultures. Pahl said the annual celebration is an opportunity for the Upper Cumberland to highlight diversity and celebrate unity.

“I just want all cultures to feel welcome here,” Pahl said. “And that’s what we’re about, interested in educating and celebrating and advocating diversity and equality for all groups.”

Pahl said there would be booths to explore and three stages across the event area. She said an announcer will keep everyone updated on the happenings, and you should feel free to hang out, relax, and enjoy your community.

Pahl said cultures represented include Indian and Native American communities with representatives from two Native American tribes. She said there will be performances by Hawaiian dancers and a German band. And Pahl said she was particularly pleased to host performances from the Latin community.

“We have so many Hispanic people in our area, but we haven’t had any representation,” Pahl said. “So we have dancers and also a saxaphone artist who is playing a full 20 minutes of Alt-Latin music and I’m very excited about that.”

Pahl said representatives from the Jamaican and African American communities are participating. She said Harriet Tubman will be reenacted by local actress Regina Pullin.

“She’s just fabulous,” Pahl said. “And it’s just beautiful and very moving.”

The third annual Celebration of Cultures will be held Saturday on the Square in Fairfield Glade on the Corner of Peavine and Stonehenge Drive from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

There is no fee to attend this event and the performances. Food trucks present will charge their regular prices. More information is available online at www.uppercumberlanddiversityadvocates.org
