Upper Cumberland Diversity Advocates Host Multicultural Celebration Festival

Upper Cumberland Diversity Advocates is hosting an event highlighting cultures from around the world that live in the Upper Cumberland.

UCDA President John McArthur said that the organization wanted to host the Multicultural Celebration at Fairfield Glade as a chance for the community to come together in both a fun and educational setting to celebrate differences.

“That’s one of the main goals of the Upper Cumberland Diversity Advocates,” McArthur said. “Is to promote that understanding and appreciation of other cultures while at the same time appreciating the culture that our local residents come from.”

McArthur said the festival will also have informational booths, performances, and more from a wide variety of groups. He said there will be representation ranging from the Plateau Old-Time German Band to an African-American drum and dance ensemble.

McArthur said the event used to occur yearly from older versions of his organizations, and that he’d like it to continue for years to come.

“There is a lot of enthusiasm in this community for celebrating the folks who oftentimes get overlooked in our community,” McArthur said. “And they’re really a very valuable part of our community. So this is an opportunity to celebrate with them, to appreciate the culture that they may be coming from or have historic connections to.”

The event will be on Saturday, August 27th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m at Fairfield Glade.
