Three water tanks in Monterey will receive some updates in the near future.
Consulting engineer Nathaniel Green said tank inspectors have identified a few problems with the structures.
“One of the items on two tanks was that the temperature inside the top of the tank was reaching an excess of 140-degrees Fahrenheit,” Green said. “About 120-degrees is the maximum that they want it to reach, and so there’s some corrosion that’s happening in there.”
Inspectors have recommended cutting vents into the tanks to help stabilize the water temperature. Each tank will also need new manways installed to allow easier access for entry.
Green estimated that the work for all three tanks will cost between $50,000 and $115,000.
“I’m going to have a third-party inspector come in,” Green said. “I’m going to get pricing from them to make sure that we take this from cradle to grave to ensure that everything that doesn’t meet American Water Works Association Standards are brought up to where they do.”
The Monterey Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted Monday to begin accepting bids for the projects. Two of the water tanks are located on Peter Avenue and the other at the city industrial park.
