Unofficial Results Show Over 40 Percent Of Voters Participated In Putnam, Cumberland

Voter turnout in Tuesday’s election strong according to election officials.

Unofficial results that include early voting numbers show that Putnam County saw more than 40 percent of registered voters participate. A total of 19,854 people voted.

In Cumberland County, more than 46 percent of voters hit the polls with 21,952 total ballots cast. In White County, more than 7,000 people voted.

House Speaker Cameron Sexton said that turnout is up from previous years.

“It’s a great day,” Sexton said. “It is a great feeling. We had a record number of people that turned out on Election day and also on early voting. To get the vote total out of Putnam County and Cumberland County which exceeded 80 percent overall was a great day.”

A steady turnout in Van Buren County resulted in 1,953 votes tallied. In the Spencer Mayor race, 549 votes were cast.

Clay County saw a below average turnout with 31 percent of registered voters participating. In Byrdstown, 290 voters decided against the legal sale of liquor.
