An unloaded hunting rifle was found in the vehicle of a White County High School student Tuesday afternoon.
White County Schools Communications Director Candice Allen said a student reported the gun using the STOpit reporting app. She said the app is used county-wide to report safety concerns and bullying.
“Fortunately, students were never in any harm,” Allen said. “There was no threat and there was no harm. But, we are proud that the student reported it, and we are proud of our SROs for responding. It’s just important that we remind everyone that weapons of any kind are not allowed on campus.”
Allen said the school’s School Resource Officers responded to the report and disciplinary action was handed down to the student to whom the vehicle belongs. She said the school system is fortunate to have a resource like the STOPit app for students to help keep each other safe.
