Former Stone Memorial High School Assistant Athletic Director Nathan Brown is the new assistant princiapal and athletic director for Upperman.
Brown was one of six candidates interviewed for the position. Upperman Principal Billy Stepp said Brown’s passion for student athletics and experience with TSSAA were the deciding factors.
“He obviously loves the kids and being around the kids and wants to go to these events,” Stepp said. “Being a high school athletic director is a lifestyle. You have to want to go to these events.”
Stepp said past athletic directors worked hard to make Upperman fans feel apart of the Baxter community. Stepp expects Brown to continue to build the historic athletic program.
“We worked really hard to be out there and be available and visible to the public,” Stepp said. “So that they feel apart of the Upperman family or vice versa. The Upperman family feels apart of the Baxter family. It is a very prod community, and they love their bees.”
Brown taught English and economical personal finance and served as assistant athletic director for Stone Memorial.
“His experience with working with TSSAA is a big plus for me,” Stepp said. “That is something I will not have to train him up on and knows the scheduling and all the things you have to do throughout the year for each sport.”
Brown will fill the spot of Greg Wilson, who left this summer to become the White County High School principal.
