While the rest of the Upper Cumberland has been dry, the designers working on the Upperman High School expansion have experienced the opposite: a lot of water and wet ground.
Upland Design Architect Kim Chamberlain said crews have encountered the expected bad soil at the back of the site.
“Work for the actual building, footprint itself where the ROTC and wrestling room along with the choir room are going,” Chamberlain said. “So over the next few weeks, we’ll be moving a lot fo bad soils in there and going back with compacted rock to get us a suitable pad for the buildings.”
Creeks existed on the Upperman grounds and many have gone underground. Drainage has long been an issue.
Chamberlain said utility relocation has been ongoing and should soon wrap up. He said a lot of materials are being submitted for selection, so they expect to see work start on the main building additions in the next 30 days.
Chamberlain said right now, crews are trying to get everything situated in the back so they can start on the main additions all at once.
