UCHRA Program Helps With Energy Bills To Keep Your Home Warm

Cold temperatures serve as a good reminder that help is available through UCHRA’s heating program.

Community Services Director TaShana Hooks said the LIHEAP program helps low income families keep their homes warm.

“We have funds available for regular assistance, and we have funds for crisis assistance,” Hooks said. “In order to get our crisis assistance, you have to have a disconnect notice within 48 hours, but we have three different benefit amounts.”

Hooks said households can get $600, $800 or $1,000 paid directly to vendors for energy bills. Hooks said heating of all types such as gas, wood and electric qualify.

Hooks said the application process just takes about 15 minutes to complete at any local UCHRA office.
