UCHRA Offering Free Transportation For COVID Vaccines

The Area Agency on Aging and Disability has partnered with UCHRA to provide free transportation for seniors needing a COVID vaccination.

Transportation Director Holly Montooth said check ins with area seniors revealed that some residents did not have the means to reach a vaccine location.

“If you are interested, you would need to go ahead and schedule your appointment with your local health department,” Montooth said. “And then once you know your appointment time, reach out to your local UCHRA office to schedule your transportation.”

Montooth said residents will be picked up at their door and taken to any location needed. Montooth said this service is available for all 14 Upper Cumberland Counties.

“We just knew that this was an issue that some folks do not have available and ready transportation,” Montooth said, “And, we wanted to be able to provide this service to them.”

The service has been running for about a week with many already taking advantage. UC Public Transit has 115 vehicles in its fleet. Montooth said call 1-833-UC TRIPS for more information.
