UCHRA Adding Third Go Route In Cookeville

UCHRA adding a third Go Route to its Cookeville bus services beginning Monday.

Transportation Director Holly Montooth said the new route will have additional stops including the Plateau Mental Health Center and the Cookeville Rescue Mission. Montooth said the route will increase the frequency buses arrive at each stop and help keep the whole system on schedule.

“We have timed stops, and based upon traffic and the increased ridership, sometimes we get behind,” Montooth said. “And by separating and including this third route, that will allow us to keep up the pace better.”

Montooth said the decision to add a route was made after an annual evaluation to see how all of their different routes were working. She said they will be splitting up the existing blue route and adding some of those stops to the new red route.

“It alleviates a lot of pressure off of the existing blue route, and we were able to include additional stops by adding this red route,” Montooth said.

This new route will be premiering alongside a change eliminating the fare for all of the UCHRA’s Go Routes. Montooth said the new route will allow them meet the current demand for the service and address the specific needs of their riders.

“We will be stopping at those locations every hour, upon the hour,” Montooth said.

The Go Routes include stops at designated areas and bus shelters around Cookeville.
