UCDD-UCHRA Introducing Programs To Newly Elected Legislatures In Nashville

A team of UCDD-UCHRA leaders visited Nashville Wednesday creating communication avenues with newly elected legislators.

Executive Director Mark Farley said three or four new state representatives or senators representing the region means new staff needing to learn about available programs.

“We’ve got some individuals that are working the hill today that new staff members know how to access the programs we have and to make sure they understand how to refer clients and citizens as they call into their offices to their appropriate place. Hopefully at the end of the day, out legislators can say they helped the client, and we are able to help them as well.”

Farley said housing opportunities, utility assistance and substance abuse programs some of the programs shared. Farley said the trip was meant as an informational session opposed to lobbying for change.

Farley said the relationships built will help facilitate the Upper Cumberland Summit happening next week. Farley said city and county mayors will join him in Nashville to share their feedback to legislatures.
