UC Women’s Club Launching Scholarship For Women In Business

The Upper Cumberland Women’s Club will launch a scholarship next month to empower the region’s aspiring female entrepreneurs.

Women’s Club Member Jessica Levy said the scholarship will allow women to achieve personal, professional, and civic goals. She said for the role of women in business to grow, they have to work as a collective.

“We feel that coming together and all creating an atmosphere in which we can give our gifts and just be better together is something that women don’t do often enough,” Levy said.

Levy said she hopes to see a woman in real estate, insurance, or cosmetology reach goals that would not have been possible without financial support. She said as the club raises funds for the scholarship, the amount that will be distributed is yet to be determined. She said those awarded will have funds paid directly to a school or certification program that they have chosen to further their entrepreneurial journey.

Women’s Club Member Lynn Scuderi said the scholarship will also partner the recipients with experienced women in business to help educate them on the most effective methods of moving up in the business world.

“These women who are a part of Upper Cumberland Women’s Club have been in business for a long time,” Levy said. “There are so many experienced women in this group and they are wise, and they have information that is invaluable for someone who is starting a new business.”

She said everything these women have learned and overcome in decades of experience can function as an unparalleled resource for getting a step up when starting a small business or growing an existing business. Scuderi said local businesses can make tax-deductible donations to the scholarship to help broaden and enrich the business culture throughout the Upper Cumberland.

“We’re changing their careers midstream, or whatever it might be,” Scuderi said. “It could be a second or third career that they’re going into and need that additional guidance.”

Scholarships will be awarded to one or more applicants to help them make their business dreams a reality.
