UC United Soccer Club Postponing 25th Anniversary Celebration

The Upper Cumberland United Soccer Club is postponing its 25th anniversary celebration.

The event has been rescheduled for November 6 at the Putnam County Sportsplex. Club President Jason Gentry said with rain expected, they wanted to make sure the day was perfect to honor the club’s founders who made it all possible since 1995.

“Coaches and referees and board members and so many people that have played such an integral part in making the club what it is,” Gentry said. “But then realizing, well this all wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the vision, if it wasn’t for the leadership of Steve and Brenda Robinson so long ago.”

Gentry said despite the new date, all the festivities will still happen. He said that includes a visit from the Nashville Soccer Club, recreation soccer games and the anniversary ceremony.

The event is from  9:00 AM until 3:00 PM or 4:00 PM.

“Recreational games will start at 9:00 AM, food trucks will be there at 9:00 AM,” Gentry said. “The festivities will start at that point and the plan is to have a special ceremony at 11:00 AM where we will honor our founders and also have a service award for one of our members who have really meant a lot to the club. As far as their volunteer efforts over the years.”

Gentry said growing Soccer in the region has been a huge focus over the years. However, he said there’s more to their efforts than just getting kids involved in sports.

“I think the key thing as humanity is we have to work together in all aspects of life and soccer I feel like teaches that,” Gentry said. “Because it is such a team sport and you have to learn to rely on one another and you have to understand the strengths and weaknesses of different players that are on your team. You play to those strengths and you help lift up each other in your weak areas. It carries over to real life.”
