Directors of summer camps across the region have a positive outlook when it comes to attendance for the upcoming season.
Cedar Lake Camp Executive Director Ryan Higgins said his spring camp had a record turnout, so he anticipates the trend to continue.
“We had a significant sized camp last year and was very healthy,” Higgins said. “We had zero cases of COVID and very little sickness in other regards. It was actually a very healthy summer. I expect this summer to be pretty close to normal.”
The Putnam County YMCA offers Summer Day Camps and interest seems to be picking up. Outreach Coordinator Jenny Thacker said parents are already reaching out wanting their kids to come to camp.
“There’s always a need for a safe environment for kids to go to in the summer,” Thacker said. “And parents are working, so I think we will still see our normal numbers this summer.”
Higgins said with COVID guidelines ever changing, operations of camp will be established as June comes closer. As for YMCA, Thacker said enhanced cleaning procedures and health screenings will be incorporated with the Day Camps but that is subject to change.
