UC Air Fair Saw Successful Second Year

Upper Cumberland Air Fair saw a successful weekend for the second year in a row.

Airport Manager Dean Selby said the event was met with a lot of positive feedback. He said one particular challenge from this year’s event was less military activity.

“Because of the hurricane that had just occurred in Florida we had several of them that had been rerouted down there to help with that,” Selby said. “So we didn’t have as much of the bigger military stuff, but we had a lot of more general aviation and smaller aircraft that made up the difference.”

Selby said crowd estimates were about the same as last year, with about 7,000 people across the event. He said Sunday saw a lower turnout due to rain.

As for next year, Selby said plans are still up in the air. He said an event of this magnitude requires a lot of effort to make a success, and there have been several discussions about how it would look in the future.

“We really did have a great event this year, and we were happy to have it back after last year,” Selby said. “We’ll have to continue those discussions going into the future.”
