U Haul Truck Involved In I-40 Crash

A Tuesday afternoon crash along Interstate 40 sent a Murfreesboro man to Cumberland County Medical Center.

57-year-old Edward J. Matthews was driving a U-Haul box truck westbound around mile marker 325. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report, the truck ran off the right side of the roadway, down an embankment and struck a fence. The truck continued across Eroh Road before coming to rest down a second embankment, striking a tree.

Matthews was transported to the hospital with injuries. He faces charges of failure to exercise due care.

The accident happened around 2:30pm Tuesday.
