Two people have died after a two semi-truck crash on I-40 in Smith County Thursday morning.
30-year-old Omar Sosa De La Cruz of Bradenton, Florida was traveling with 37-year-old Erisbel Cruz Cid of Hialeah, Florida in a 2010 Freightliner. De La Cruz struck the 2021 Peterbilt driven by 68-year-old Gene Lundgren of Shenandoah, Iowa causing a front-to-rear collision near mile-marker 254.
After the vehicles came to a rest, De La Cruz’s vehicle caught on fire with him and Cid inside. Lundgren suffered no injuries.
