Two people suffered critical injuries Wednesday afternoon during a two vehicle crash in Jackson County.
The crash happened around 4:00 p.m. on State Route 56.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol said 20-year-old Thomas Pryor crashed his southbound Chevy pickup head-on into a northbound Ford Mustang driven by 47-year-old Tommy Hicks of Gainesboro. Both drivers airlifted to out-of-town hospitals for treatment. As of 2:00 p.m. Thursday, their conditions remained unknown.
A THP report stated that Pryor had swerved to avoid a northbound Nissan Sentra driven by 18-year-old Logan Duncan of Lafeyette.
Crash investigators said Duncan had fallen asleep at the wheel and crossed the center line. Pryor swerved to avoid a collision and struck Hick’s vehicle head-on, according to the THP report.
The impact ejected Pryor from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Duncan did not suffer any injuries. His vehicle not involved in the collision.
Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
