With winter here, finding ways to save money on your electric bill can be important to the family budget.
TVA’s Scott Fiedler said often, small adjustments and mindful habits are the keys to savings.
“A simple trick is to look at your door, “Fiedler said. “Is the weather stripping worn? If it is you go to Home Depot or Lowes to get some weather stripping to replace that”
Fiedler said reverse your ceiling fan to enhance air circulation and help maintain a more comfortable temperature. Most ceiling fans have a small switch to bring warm air down to the floor.
“If you have a ceiling fan, set it to run Counter Clockwise,” Fiedler said. “That way it will draw the heat from the ceiling down”.
Fiedler said it’s also critical to ensure your heating system is operating efficiently. Frazier said performing a basic check of your HVAC system can reduce energy costs.
“About 50 percent of your bill is going to be HVAC heating your house this year,” Fiedler said. “So we want to get that unit inspected, very efficient.”
