Cookeville Cemetery wants to remind visitors to clear decorations from the ground by Tuesday for mowing season.
Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said that the city asks this to help maintain the grounds.
“We have over the holiday season, oftentimes people will bring arrangements and flowers and put them on the ground,” Woods said. “And we want them to be able to take them and their containers and save those and use those again if that’s what they want to do with them.”
Woods said typically flowers and decor will have to be on the gravestones themselves or in saddles on the gravestones. He said that the groundskeepers will throw them away if decorations are not cleared.
Woods said that the exception to the rule is a fresh grave. He said that is especially because there is no grass to mow, so flowers are permitted for a period of time.
