TTU’s News Director Retires After Five Years To Pursue Ministry

Tennessee Tech’s Director of News and Public Relations Buddy Pearson retires from the university after five years in the position.

Pearson said the decision comes after a career change to pursue ministry work.

“I leave here knowing that I did the best that I could while I was here,” Pearson said. “But, very excited about the future more so than I have been in a long time, because it is my passion and what I want to do.”

Pearson worked off and on with Tech starting in 1999 as an assistant sports information director. Pearson said seeing the university grow over that time has been fun to watch.

“Over the last 22 years even when I was working for the newspaper and even now, really seeing this campus evolve into a pedestrian campus and a beautiful campus,” Pearson said. “I can’t believe all the improvements and the renovations and new buildings and how beautiful this campus has become over the last 20 years and really the past five years.”

Pearson said he has enjoyed his time of writing and promoting students, athletes and staff of the university. Pearson said the people and relationships he made at Tennessee Tech is what he will miss the most.

“It is an incredible group of folks,” Pearson said. “They’re fun, they’re creative and they are hard workers. Any task that is thrown out there, this department responds very well. I think it is a testament to Karen Lykins, who is the vice-president of communications and Bobbie Maynard.”
