Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team heading to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2000.
TTU Athletics Director Mark Wilson said it is the goal of all teams in every sports program to make it to the NCAA tournament each year. He said the preparations for the tournament itself involve balancing several logistical components.
“It is a huge effort from all the members of the NCAA, the selection committee that’s made up of athletics directors and athletic staff members like myself that make the selections and run all the tournaments with all the NCAA staff,” Wilson said. “So there’s a tremendous amount of work that goes into it.”
Wilson said one of the biggest hurdles is the logistics of travel. He said the team could travel close to home and only require a bus or have to fly across the entire country.
Wilson said the Lady Golden Eagles are already working with their support teams to prepare for the tournament. He said they have successfully managed the NCAA tournament logistics before with other teams, and are happy for the opportunity to do again.
