TTU Trustees Approve Parking Garage And Tucker Stadium Project

The Tennessee Tech Board of Trustees approved a new parking garage and renovations to Tucker Stadium Thursday.

The work will be added to Tech’s project list for 2022-2023, according to Trustee Johnny Stites.

“I think there is a lot of excitement for these two projects,” Stites said. “We believe that both of them can be very instrumental to taking Tech to the next level.”

President Phil Oldham said the parking garage would include 412 spaces to be located on Wings Up Way on the north side of Ray Morris Hall.

“This is part of our ongoing master plan development dating back to the 2014 master plan,” Oldham said. “There were multiple sites selected for potential parking garages when the campus was ready for that. This was one of those sites. This is a very important step forward.”

The Tucker Stadium renovations would be focused on the west side of the facility. Oldham said the plans call for new seating, suites and club level areas. Oldham said capacity would be 12,000.

“The design of it is so dependent on the ability to market the facility and obviously sell tickets to football games and other options and bring more partners into this equation,” Oldham said. “Those conversations continue, so as we move into design on this particular project, the marketing firm along with the architectural design team will work together to make sure the design and finances match.”

The garage project is estimated to cost some $13.9 million. The stadium renovations come in at $29.9 million.
