TTU Student Athletes Continue High Graduation Success Rates

Tennessee Tech recorded another successful Federal Graduation Rate for student athletes among public institutions.

According to a NCAA report released Wednesday, 63 percent of student athletes that enrolled in 2015 graduated from the university.

Athletic Director Mark Wilson said the students deserve all of the credit.

“When we recruit young men and young women, we tell them first and foremost it’s about their academic successes at Tennessee tech,” Wilson said. “Yes, we want to win OVC Championships. Our fans want to see us win, but it is equally important in the classroom.”

Wilson said the graduation rate is three percent higher than the overall student population. Wilson said being a full-time student while also competing can be a challenge considering the hours invested into both.

“Our student-athletes and coaches truly understand the important role athletics plays in serving the University and the surrounding community,” Tech Director of Athletics Mark Wilson said. “They continue to make academic success a top priority and the results of this most recent NCAA report speak to their diligence in the classroom. Our students are coming in better prepared when they enter Tennessee Tech, and they are staying on track to earn their degrees.”

The report also showed that 89 percent of Tennessee Tech student athletes that enrolled in 2015 but later transferred graduated.
