Tennessee Tech has reached a new high in research funding for the 2022 fiscal year.
President Phil Oldham gave a report of the growth to the university’s Academic and Student Affairs Committee Thursday. Oldham said the university had over $23 million of sponsored research.
“The trend over the last 10 years, our funded research continues to grow substantially,” Oldham said. “We are continuing to make progress to that goal of making it to $40 million of funded research.”
According to Oldham, research funding has increased from $11 million to over $23 million since 2013. Oldham said 36 individuals were awarded at least $100,000 for sponsored research over the past year.
The College of Engineering leads the way with $7.5 million. Oldham said other colleges such as business, education, arts and sciences also exceeded $1 million. The university’s Center of Excellence had over $4 million in funding.
“You see a pretty substantial distribution across campus,” Oldham said. “This is not just focused completely on engineering or the sciences, but really distributed across campus. I think it is a testament that our faculty are really engaged.”
