One year later, the Ukraine-Russia conflicts remains at a stalemate as American resources have kept the Ukrainians in the battle.
Tennessee Tech Political Science Professor Dr. Michael Gunter said the situation remains very tense with nuclear warfare as a serious threat.
Gunter-1 (:19) Q. Months And Months
Gunter said his main concern is when Russia grows tired of American equipment being used against their armies. Gunter said the conflict could spill over to neighboring NATO countries such as Poland. Gunter said the U.S. would then be treaty-bond to respond.
Gunter said he related the conflict to when Russia attacked Finland in 1939 at the beginning of World War II. Gunter said it may have took the Russians six months to conquer some land but it eventually become a military juggernaut.
The expansion of NATO and Ukraine wanting to join caused the war. Gunter said Russia felt like it was forced to protect itself as the alliance grew. Gunter said that is when Russia broke international law by invading Ukraine to secure its borders.
