TTU President Review On Hold

The Tennessee Tech Board of Trustees is delaying University President Phil Oldham’s yearly comprehensive review.

The Board of Trustees use this review to assess the university under the president’s leadership. Chair Trudy Harper said without COVID, the board would currently be preparing to start the review sometime next year.

Harper said the review is not a requirement but can be considered at any time by the Executive Committee. President reviews are typically conducted by an outside firm who have access to faculty, students, staff, alumni, legislators and other public officials.

The Board considered starting Oldham’s review in February but determined it was too early for the yearly evaluation. The Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges recommends universities do not start these reviews during a crisis such as a pandemic.

Input from Tech faculty and President’s Cabinet are also considered by the Board.Harper said the reviews are important because they provide a high-level review and consider the university’s strategic efforts under the president.

The Board of Trustees usually conducts the review of the president at the end of each fiscal year.
