Tennessee Tech University President Phil Oldham has been named to the NCAA Board of Directors.
Oldham said he looks forward to representing the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) while serving on the board.
“The [Division I] Board of Directors is the final authority on all policies and practices within D-I of the NCAA,” Oldham said. “It’s a major deal, I’m excited about it. There’s a lot of challenges in college athletics today sort of on the forefront of a lot of people’s attention, and I’m excited to be there.”
One representative from each of the NCAA’s 32 Division-I conferences makes up the organization’s board of directors.
Oldham said the position will help put OVC schools like Tennessee Tech on the same level as some of the nation’s most prestigious programs.
“I have the same voting capability as someone from a Big Ten school, an SEC school, or a Pac-12 school,” Oldham said. “Whether it’s somebody from UCLA or Tennessee Tech, it’s the same thing, so I’ll be in the same mix as all those individuals and have a great opportunity to influence decisions on a national level.”
Oldham will serve a four-year term representing the OVC. Oldham has previously served as the OVC representative on the NCAA’s Presidential Forum for the past six years.
